ART FOR THE ABSTRACT
All works are painted with watercolors on cold press or hot press watercolor paper.
The collection reflects 20 years of life in Los Angeles, interpreted through abstract forms and compositions.
The series draws influence from Rorschach inkblot tests, where the viewer projects meaning onto abstraction.
Theres also a connection to the practice of shodo, the Japanese technique of painting characters with black ink as well as LAs graffiti scene.
Other themes include urban patterns, aerial views, architecture, instruments, circuits, biology, and the subconscious experience of the city.
The painting process follows two approaches-both with intuitive impulse.
In one, I begin with measured shapes created using rulers and geometric structure, then painting within those shapes. In the other Its freehand and responding only to the movement of the brush.
